Discover the north of the island differently, starting with a visit of Goodlands local market to meet the locals and experience life in a small village. Proceed to one of the oldest shipreplica-making factories before a glimpse at the colonial past of Mauritius with the wonderfully renovated Chateau de Labourdonnais. An exquisite lunch will be served at La Table du Chateau. After lunch, Pamplemousses botanical garden is a must, most of its rare plant species were brought in by the French Botanist Pierre Poivre in the XVII th century and it is the oldest Botanical Garden of the southern hemisphere. Once at Cap Malheureux, further on, there will be a short photo stop to capture the tiny red roofed church and listen to a short story of the British invasion of the island with their Armada kept behind Gunner’sPoint.

Meet the Mootoo family at Moka situated in the Centre of the island. Their ancestors came to Mauritius in the 1890’s from the State of Tamil Nadu in India (actual Chennai). They settled in Moka in 1905 and jealously preserved all the original family cooking recipes until this day. You will be provided with a list of ingredients you will need to buy; fresh vegetables and spices. The use of spices such as saffron, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves are what gives Indian dishes their subtle flavour. Immigrants came from different parts of India and brought with them a great many ways of cooking rice and chapatis (flat breads); dry grains and pickles are also used extensively in Indian cuisine. It is an opportunity to discover how the local people live in extended families to keep the bonding and family traditions throughout centuries.
Starting from Curepipe, the second most important town of the island you may enjoy some shopping; jewelry, 17th – 18th century ship-models, cashmere wear and much more. From there you will be driven to Grand Bassin (the Ganga Talao), a sacred place of worship for the Hindu community, a photo stop at the Black River Gorges viewpoint is a must. Lunch will be served at Le Chamarel Panoramic restaurant, with a spectacular view on the Morne Brabant and the horizon. The last stop will be at Chamarel waterfalls and the 7 Coloured Earth Geopark, "7 Coloured Earth"of Chamarel is a very rare geological curiosity: bare earth dunes, of different colours (ochre, Brown, pink, orange, purple...).
